Who is Number 1?

Two years ago I fell in love with the cult 1960s tv series The Prisoner. I had the privilege of visiting its delightful filming location of Portmeirion, Wales in July 2026. In some ways it feels more surreal in person than on screen: steep hills and staircases are everywhere. The Village’s vibrant colours announce themselves in a way nature never intended. Architectural proportions all feel a little off in the best possible way. A representation in stone and plaster of the deep and fruitful strangeness contained within the human psyche.
